Why ‘Home is Where the Bodies Are’ by Jeneva Rose Should Be Your Next Thriller

In the vast landscape of psychological thrillers, few authors have captured the attention of readers as swiftly as Jeneva Rose. Known for her intricate plots and characters that linger in your mind long after the last page, Rose has solidified her place as a must-read author for fans of suspense. Her novel, Home is Where the Bodies Are, is no different. It is a testament to her knack for weaving compelling narratives that keep you on the edge of your seat.

The Rise of Jeneva Rose and Home is Where the Bodies Are

Before diving into this great read, it’s worth taking a moment to appreciate the journey of Jeneva Rose herself. A native of Wisconsin, Rose’s writing career began in a rather unconventional way— through her work in social media and marketing—and as so, she “will not write a book if she can’t describe in in two sentences.”  It was her passion for storytelling and the grief from losing her mother that led her finally to penning her first novel. The Perfect Marriage, quickly became a sensation, that you guessed it, she marketed herself.

Rose’s ability to create relatable, yet deeply flawed characters, combined with her skill in constructing tight, suspenseful plots, has garnered her a dedicated readership. Her books are not just stories; they’re experiences. Experiences that draw readers into the minds of her characters, making them feel every twist, turn, and chilling revelation.

Home is Where the Bodies Are might sound like the setup for a cozy mystery, but make no mistake—this novel is anything but.

What Amazon Says:

After their mother passes, three estranged siblings reunite to sort out her estate. Beth, the oldest, never left home. She stayed with her mom, caring for her until the very end. Nicole, the middle child, has been kept at arm’s length due to her ongoing battle with a serious drug addiction. Michael, the youngest, lives out of state and hasn’t been back to their small Wisconsin town since their father ran out on them seven years before.

While going through their parents’ belongings, the siblings stumble upon a collection of home videos and decide to revisit those happier memories. However, the nostalgia is cut short when one of the VHS tapes reveals a night back in 1999 that none of them have any recollection of. On screen, their father appears covered in blood. What follows is a dead body and a pact between their parents to get rid of it, before the video abruptly ends.

Beth, Nicole, and Michael must now decide whether to leave the past in the past or uncover the dark secret their mother took to her grave.

What I thought:

I was hooked from the beginning. IMO, Jeneva Rose is known for not giving you the happily ever after ending that you might be used to. She takes you down a road that may look familiar, but when you get to the end, not the place you expected to arrive.

I loved the multiple POV narrative that she delivered. Getting a good look from the perspective of the different characters really added to the tension of the book. I think that is one of the main things that drove it home for me.

Why you should read Home is Where the Bodies Are

If you’re a fan of psychological thrillers that keep you guessing until the very end, Home is Where the Bodies Are should be at the top of your reading list. Jeneva Rose has yet again proven that she’s a master of the genre. She delivers a novel that is unpredictable and unsettling in the best of ways.

But beyond the twists and turns, what sets this book apart is its exploration of themes like guilt, identity, and the idea that no one is ever truly safe from their past. Rose’s characters are complex and multifaceted, making it impossible to predict their next move—just the way a great thriller should be.

Jeneva Rose has rapidly become a standout voice in the world of suspense fiction, and Home is Where the Bodies Are is a prime example of why. With its intricate plot, unforgettable characters, and chilling atmosphere, this novel is sure to be a hit with anyone who enjoys a good psychological thriller.
