Things We Hide From The Light: Book Review

New York Times, Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestselling Author, Lucy Score has done it again with her second installment in the Knockemout series, Things We Hide From the Light.

Recovering from being shot, Nash Morgan, the Chief of Police is battling panic attacks and nightmares. Needing to piece together what happened to him, he tries to figure out who shot him and why before they can come back and finish the job.

Lina, a no-nonsense insurance investigator with motives of her own, moved in right next door. She just might be the key to getting Nash back on his feet, whether he likes it or not.

Ok… First thoughts:

This is a modern-day steamy romance, which normally would bore me to tears, but something about this one sucked me in and held me there. Spoiler Alert—I’m pretty sure that something is the author. She is HILARIOUS!

Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t that the storyline is bad, because it definitely is not. I just think what makes this book so good is that the writing is so conversational. It’s like your best friend is telling you a story. I mean, I’ve never met Lucy Score, but if I had, I’m pretty positive she and I would be really close to BFF’s. She clearly knows what she likes and she says what she means. She’s not afraid to call a cock a cock, which is kind of refreshing, am I right ladies? It’s not his member or his willy or some other god-awful word that she conjured up to describe it.

She doesn’t need to reference the Fifty Shades of his long index finger over and over again to make her point. Which again, don’t get me wrong, I loved the Fifty Shades series. Yes, the writing may have veered toward terrible, but I think it opened the door for what was once considered a taboo subject and got the ball rolling in a multitude of directions.

Oh, come onnn Karens! We were all thinking it, just no one was writing it.

The Things We Hide From The Light is told from two different perspectives in a first-person narrative which I think is so fun. I love having a peek inside the head of both main characters—And speaking of characters, these ones feel so real. You can feel their pain, share in their triumphs and revel in their victories. Not to mention, Lina is a total badass; which is super refreshing for a change. It’s rare to have a lead female character that is not a damsel in distress.

And I totally love the chapter titles…Fan, Meet Shit… A Neighborly Cockblocking… Satan in a Suit…. Eggs Benedict for Assholes… What Happens in the Shower Stays in the Shower (I actually laughed out loud while reading this chapter).

This book has intrigue, it has suspense, it has humor annnnd, it is now available on Kindle Unlimited! If you haven’t already, check it out and let me know what you think in the comments section below!
