If you love a good suspenseful read with plenty of twists and turns. “Behind Her Eyes” delivers exactly that and more. Sarah Pinborough, I bow down to you ma’am! Very well done!
I will admit, for me it was a little slow to start, but once the tension started rolling, I couldn’t put it down and found myself reading late into the night just to find out what happens next. So, hang in there! It’s totally worth it in the end!
The Characters
The book centers around three main characters: Louise, a recently divorced single mom; Adele, the wife of David, Louise’s new boss who just happens to be the guy Louise met in the bar a few nights before and shared a very intimate kiss; and David, a psychiatrist with a dark secret and a very questionable past. What follows is a twisted love triangle full of secrets, lies, and mind games.
I won’t give anything away, but I will say that the story takes some unexpected turns. Just when I thought I had things figured out, the author threw in another twist that left me reeling. The pacing was perfect, keeping me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book.
The Plot
One of the things that makes this book so intriguing is the alternate perspectives and timelines. The story is told from Louise and Adele’s point of view, jumping back and forth in time. These alternating perspectives give the reader a glimpse into the secrets that each character is hiding and leaves you wondering who to trust. Each character is flawed and complex, which made them all the more interesting to follow.
It’s impressive how well the author played with the reader’s perceptions. Without giving anything away, let’s just say that your assumptions about the characters and their motivations will constantly be challenged. The final twist in particular had me questioning everything I thought I knew about the story up until that point.
Another thing I loved about “Behind Her Eyes” was the writing itself. The author has a real talent for creating vivid imagery and setting a spooky atmosphere. The scenes set in Adele’s house, with its strange sense of foreboding, were especially effective.
The Ending
The final twist was so unexpected and mind-bending, I had to take a moment to let it sink in. In my opinion, a great ending can make or break a book, and this one definitely delivered.
Overall, “Behind Her Eyes” is a must-read for fans of psychological thrillers. Sarah Pinborough has crafted a twisted tale of love, manipulation, and betrayal that will leave you guessing until the very end. This book is not for the faint of heart, but if you’re looking for a thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat, then this is the book for you. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
