The House Across the Lake Book Club Questions
In his highly anticipated novel, The House Across the Lake, Riley Sager does not disappoint. This book was an instant New York Times Bestseller, and I see why.
When Casey Fletcher, a recently widowed actress, is exiled to her family’s lake house amidst some bad press. She thinks she sees a woman, Katherine Royce, drowning in the lake, the same lake that her husband drown in the year before. Because she was unable to save him, it becomes utterly important for her to save this woman, not only from the lake, but from her husband, Tom who is suspect in Caseys eyes. Armed with a pair of binoculars, the more she watches the house across the lake, the more she is convinced that Katherine is in trouble and that Tom is guilty.
Honestly, I cannot sing this book’s praises enough. I think the writing is brilliant and coupled with the suspense, the twists and the turns., I was in love! I literally had to go back two separate times and re-read different parts of the book because I was absolutely, without-a-doubt-certain that the author had told me something completely different a few chapters back.
Which Riley Sager book is the best?
The House Across the Lake, definitely has my pick. I really wish Netflix would adapt this novel into a movie or maybe even a mini-series. I’m not sure who I would cast as the main characters, maybe someone like Jodie Foster for Casey Fletcher. I can see someone like Anne Hathaway for Katherine, and Bradley Cooper (I love love love Bradley Cooper) or Jason Issacs—he’s a real good creep— for Tom. If given the opportunity, who do you think you might cast in the leading roles?
Did you see the scenes in this book as vividly as I did? When you read a book, does a movie play in your head? Do you get still shots? Is it in color? Or is it in black and white? Maybe somewhere in between
