Okay… soooo maybe I didn’t like the writing of this one. I just felt like it should have read way smoother coming from a New York Times Bestselling Author.
In parts it felt like maybe a high school kid had written it… I know…brash, huh?
But seriously. About halfway through, I was feeling like maybe the book should have been called, You Shouldn’t Have Wrote This, by Geneva Rose instead of, You Shouldn’t Have Come Here.
And the storyline… ehhh
I mean, the general idea of it was okay. City girl falls for a country boy—throw in a little mystery, some suspense and boom! You got yourself the makings of a decent novel.
The characters were likeable enough, just not all together believable. I felt like the romance between the two main characters was a bit forced and definitely rushed. I mean, who the hell is taking off her clothes to go skinny dipping with a guy she just met—the guy who is the host of her Airbnb—with the promise that he won’t look.
Having said all that, there could be a chance that I may be what some might consider a writing snob.
I have been a reader all my life…okay.. so technically, maybe I didn’t pop outta the womb with a book in my hand, but I have been a reader for as long as I can remember and a writer for the last 15 years or so. What bothers me in a book, may not even bother you, so I wouldn’t let what I said above completely detour you.
The ending though? Wowwwwwza! The ending pretty much made the entire book. At least it did for me. I totally didn’t see the twist at the end coming. So great Job Geneva!
All in all, am I sorry that I read it?
Absolutely… Not! For what, in my opinion, the writing may have been lacking, the ending was beyond stellar and more than made up for anything that may have gone wrong in the beginning.
I thought I knew where the author was leading me throughout the entire first ¾ of the book, only to turn page after shocking page in the ending loving it even more with each word.
Because of the ending alone, I will remember this book.
