I Will Find You was my first Harlan Coben book. Well done, Sir! –A bit unsettling, but very well done! Harlan Coben has over eighty million books in print worldwide under his belt, so it really shouldn’t be any surprise to me that this book was good. Apparently, I’ve just gotten a bit persnickety in my old age, and sometimes it’s hard for me to give authors I don’t know much about a chance. In this case, I’m glad I did.
I mean, I’ve seen his books on the New York Times Bestsellers list for years now, and I really can’t tell you what has kept me from even picking one of them up. Or why this one finally caught my eye. Possibly because his name is usually first and foremost on his books. That’s great if you know who he is and are scanning the shelves for one of his new books. But if you’re like me, I think it is more the titles of the books that make the first impressions. Having said that, I’m sure the color of the cover may play a role in my decision making too. It probably isn’t a coincidence that this book cover is pink and it is the one I finally picked up.
The Opening
This book opens with the main character, David Burroughs, in prison for brutally murdering his own 3-year-old son in his crib.
For me, as a parent, this is the unimaginable. Truly the stuff nightmares are made of. Just thinking about something like this happening to a child makes my whole-body shudder, but thinking about a parent doing something like this? It’s completely inconceivable.
For five years David has kept his head down, trying to serve his prison sentence in as much peace as he can muster. He hasn’t made any friends on the inside, he’s tried his best not to make any enemies, and has completely refused to see anyone— His wife, his family, friends. No one.
Out of the blue his Sister-in-law pops up and shows him a photo. It’s of a couple at an amusement park. In the background of this photo is his son— who appears to be very much alive.
Wait a Minute, Whaaat?
This guy just did five years in prison…for killing his own son. He even confessed to killing his own son, and now he finds out his son may be alive? …But is he? Or is this just a conjured-up fantasy?
You know what I’m going to say—Read it and find out!
I didn’t realize how many of Harlan Coben’s novels have been adapted for Film and TV. Yes.. yes.. I’m often on the slower side of things. But If you are a fan, you might want to check these out. Many of them are on Netflix.
