Ana Reyes came out swingin’ with her debut novel, The House in the Pines, and in my opinion, knocked it clean outta the park! This novel was both a Reese’s Book Club pick and a New York Times Bestseller and after reading it, it’s more than obvious why.
Seven years ago, Maya watched her best friend suddenly drop dead in the presence of the man they were spending time with all summer. The police claimed there was no one to blame. Now after seeing a video on YouTube of another girl die the exact same way, in the company of the exact same man, she knows she’s not crazy.
Hell bent on proving that this man is a murderer, she sets out to get justice for her friend. In this dark and twisted fairy tale, things are definitely not what they seem. This villain is truly the stuff nightmares are made of.

I’m soooo looking forward to this! I wish there were more authors that did this kind of thing. It’s pretty cool to get to know the person behind the pen, so to speak.
To find out who they are, where they came from, maybe even how the idea for their novel formed. Was it a moment in time that transformed into something big and beautiful? Something dark and scary? Was it a series of events that led up to something catastrophic?
It amazes me how one little moment in time can sometimes spawn an entire novel. That’s what propelled my WIP into existence— I was driving into town one windy day, pissed off at my husband—I don’t really remember exactly what for, but something to the effect of kids, chores and never-ending errands— We’ve all been there, right ladies… and uh… maybe even a few of you gents?
This particular day I happened to be following a garbage truck that had a decent sized piece of cardboard dangling out of the rear door and I thought, what would happen if that piece of cardboard was to break loose, stick to my windshield and cause a crash? Then I thought, what if HE— he being my husband, was the one who had to pick up the pieces of our suddenly shattered life? From that one thought, my Work in Progress, Out of Control was born. Unfortunately, it’s been a long delivery, hence the status, work in progress.
Enough about me, back to The House in the Pines
If you haven’t already read it, you can get it here on Amazon or get it for free when you sign up for a free trial from Audible.
I should Note: The House in the Pines deals with the subject matter of alcoholism and addiction, if that is a trigger for you, this book may not be a great fit.
Until next time, stay brash, stay bookish and most definitely, stay true to you!
