Ready for a little Sex, Drugs and Rock n’ Roll? Daisy Jones & The Six brings the Music Scene of the 70’s back to life in Taylor Jenkins Reid’s best-selling novel, which sold over one million copies.
This story is centered around the two charismatic lead singers, Daisy Jones and Billy Dunne and the bands rise and eventual fall from fame.
Daisy is sneaking into night clubs, sleeping with rock stars and dreaming of a life of fame.
Billy is trying to cope with the news that his girlfriend, Camilla is pregnant.
When a producer throws these two together, all kinds of fireworks ignite.
I listened to this book on Audible instead of reading it and I gotta say, it was a cool experience. Not only is the book told biography style— in an interview format. Each member of the band gives their own account of the story. It’s narrated with multiple voices, making you feel like they are each telling their story directly to you.
This was a Reese’s Book Club pick and I can see why. These are the kind of characters that jump right off the page and stay with you for awhile.
What could be better than diving headfirst into this novel?
Possibly the television adaptation of it! Releasing on March 3rd with a new episode every Friday. This 10 episode miniseries premiers exclusively on Prime Video, featuring Riley Keough as Daisy Jones and Sam Claflin as Billy Dunne.
Riley Keough— probably most known for her breakout role as an escort in the first season of the anthology series, The Girlfriend Experience, in which she earned a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actress.
And who better to play this iconic part of Daisy Jones than the King of Rock and Rolls granddaughter herself. For those of you who didn’t know, Riley Keough is Lisa Marie Presley’s daughter. Making Elvis Presley, her grandfather, and Michael Jackson her stepfather. The girl obviously has the background in music to completely nail this part.
Sam Claflin, who you might know from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire where he played Finnick Odair, for his starring role in Me Before You or for his very first film role as Philip Swift in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
Is Daisy Jones & The Six a real band?
Even though this is a fictional story, it was inspired by real-life band—Fleetwood Mac and the tortured relationship between Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham. Stevie Nicks even wrote a song about Lindsey Buckingham, Silver Springs, in the hopes that it would haunt him just as much as he haunted her. Speaking of music, this series features 24 original songs that were written and recorded by the cast for the series. A real life album from the not-so-fictional-anymore Daisy Jones & The Six will also be released on March 3rd.
Does Daisy Jones and the Six have a happy ending?
You’ll have to read the novel or watch the miniseries to find out. You still have a little time to get the book version in before the Prime Video release date! You can order the book here on Amazon or get it for free when you sign up for a free trial from Audible. I personally, recommend listening to this one on Audible.
Until next time, stay brash, stay bookish and most definitely, stay true to you!
