I have a hard time saying no to a James Patterson novel.

Every time I think, “Maybe I’ll try something completely different,” another Patterson book finds its way onto my reading list.

This time it was The #1 Lawyer.

And once again, I wasn’t disappointed.

I listened to the audiobook, and between the engaging narration, fast pace, and memorable characters, I found myself looking forward to every chance I had to press play.

A Story That Pulls You In

Without giving away any major spoilers, The #1 Lawyer follows Stafford Lee Penny (Man I just love that name), a successful attorney whose seemingly perfect life begins to unravel. As secrets surface and the stakes continue to rise, he finds himself fighting battles both inside and outside the courtroom.

If you’ve read James Patterson before, you’ll feel right at home.

The chapters are short.

The pacing is quick.

And just when you think you’ve figured everything out, another twist sends you in a different direction.

It’s exactly the kind of book that makes you say, “Just one more chapter.”

Except when you’re listening to the audiobook, it’s usually, “Just ten more minutes.”

The Audiobook Experience

Lately I’ve been a big audiobook fan, especially when I’m working outside, driving, or tackling projects around the house.

A great narrator can completely change how a story feels, and in this case, the narration added a lot to the experience.

The characters felt distinct without being overdone, and the delivery matched the tension of the story perfectly. There was never a point where I felt distracted or pulled out of the story because of the performance.
