The Mindf*ck Series by St. Abby: A Bloody Good Time
You ever start a book, glance up a few hours later, and realize you’ve accidentally devoured two books, haven’t blinked in forty minutes, and now feel like you could probably get away with murder… uhh…hypothetically, of course.
Welcome to my current obsession: The Mindf*ck Series by St. Abby.
Let me tell you, I zoomed through books one and two like my life depended on it. I’m currently mid-way through book three and it shows no signs of slowing down. And frankly? I don’t want it to. This is the kind of reading high I live for—short, intense, sexy little thrillers that pull you in by the collar and whisper, “You’re not sleeping tonight.”
Now I’m sleep-deprived, over-caffeinated, and questioning my moral compass—but I’m having the best time doing it.
Book One: The Risk
The Risk—appropriately titled because diving into this book is a risk. Not because it’s bad (it’s not), but because you will cancel plans, avoid texts, and ignore your family to keep reading… uh… I mean cleaning your office, *wink-wink.
This is where we meet Lana Myers, our serial-killing antiheroine with a dark past, a sharper knife, and a surprising amount of charm for someone who routinely murders people. She’s everything I didn’t know I needed in a protagonist: badass, broken, brilliant—and totally out for revenge.
What makes this book stand out (other than, you know, the murders) is how St. Abby flips the script. We’re seeing part of the story through the killers eyes. That’s right—this isn’t your usual game of cat and mouse. It’s more like the mouse has a switchblade and a trauma file the size of War and Peace.
And then there’s Logan. FBI agent. Unwittingly dating a killer. Tall, dark, and emotionally available in a way that’s both suspicious and dreamy. Their chemistry? Fire. Their situation? A psychological train wreck you can’t look away from.
Book Two: Sidetracked
Book two picks up right where we left off—which is good because I was NOT ready to be done.
In Sidetracked, things heat up even more, and I don’t just mean romantically. The stakes are higher, the kills are messier, and Lana’s secrets are peeling back like an onion made entirely of trauma and justified rage.
This is where I really started to appreciate St. Abby’s pacing. Each chapter ends in a way that makes it almost impossible to stop reading. And because the books are on the shorter side, it’s easy to justify reading “just one more”—until suddenly, you’ve finished the whole thing in one sitting.

Also, shoutout to the side characters. I’m particularly fond of Logan’s team, especially when they start putting two and two together and realize something isn’t quite adding up. Watching the FBI investigate the woman you’re falling for—who just so happens to be the killer you’re trying to catch? It’s the romantic tension of the century. Okay…maybe not the century… but it is awesome, trust me.
Book Three: Scarlet Angel (a.k.a. Where I Currently Live Now)
I’m still in the throes of Scarlet Angel, and let me tell you: things are escalating. I’m talking bloodier, bolder, and even more tangled webs of lies. And yet, I still want to wrap Lana in a warm blanket and tell her she deserves happiness and maybe some aromatherapy.
The tension between Logan and Lana is deliciously messy now. Every page feels like a countdown to either an epic explosion or a steamy makeout session. Or both. Probably both. Hopefully both.
What really gets me, though, is how even with all the killing and secrets and FBI drama, there’s this undercurrent of justice that makes me root for Lana. Like, yeah, she’s a serial killer, but she’s our serial killer. And the people she’s going after? Not exactly saints. Honestly, some of them barely qualify as human. It’s not even Dexter-level ethics—Lana is fueled by deep pain and righteous fury, and somehow, even though I don’t want to. I get it. Wait…does that make me a bad person? Mmmm… maybe get back to me after you read it yourself, then we can discuss it further!
The Mindf*ck Series as a Whole: A Stabby, Sexy, Suspenseful Rollercoaster
Okay, let’s talk big picture.
The Mindf*ck Series is five books total, and while they’re short, they pack a punch like a brass-knuckled fist to the face. They’re bingeable, addictive, emotionally intense, and surprisingly thought-provoking.
St. Abby (who, by the way, has the most genius pen name ever—seriously, is it Saint Abby, as in Lana-the-saintly-avenger? Or is it Stabby, which, let’s be real, would be hilariously on-brand?) writes with a rhythm that’s sharp and smart. Sharp… stabby… see what I did there? Every word matters. The tension is always cranked to eleven, and yet there are moments of genuine heart and even a few giggles between the trauma and takedowns.
The series explores abuse, trauma, revenge, and morality, but it never gets preachy. It’s just raw and real and a little bit unhinged in the best way possible. And Lana? She’s not just a character. She’s a force. One that’s easy to cheer for even as she’s, you know, murdering people. Which says a lot about how well St. Abby builds empathy.
Plus, let’s not ignore the fact that having a love story this compelling with all this suspense? It’s the literary equivalent of someone handing you a cupcake that’s also a grenade. Sweet… but explosive.
Final Thoughts (a.k.a. Please Respect My Privacy During This Time of Obsession)
I cannot stop thinking about these books. I pick up my Kindle and whisper “just one chapter,” and next thing I know it’s 2 a.m. and I’m emotionally destroyed in the best way. The Mindf*ck Series has climbed its way into my brain and taken up permanent residence, and honestly, I’m not asking it to leave.
If you’re into dark romance, morally gray heroines, fast-paced thrillers, or just want something that’ll make your pulse race while questioning all your values… this series is for you. Just don’t blame me if you forget to eat, sleep, or talk to your family for a few days. That’s between you and your TBR.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to get back to Scarlet Angel. Lana isn’t done—and neither am I.
If you still need to grab your copies of this book, you can get it here on Amazon. It is also currently available with a Kindle Unlimited Subscription.
Until next time, my bookish besties—keep it brash, keep it bookish, and keep it true to you.
